How to work on modern PC?

Due to the spirit of the times new motherboards do not have any ISA slots any more.Just PCI only.

Thus you will  face the problem with LPT2 card installation in such board.

The work around is as follows:

• Buy  PCI  LPT card. There are plenty of manufacturers. You have just check that it can work in the DOS mode.
• Set it to LPT 2. Some cards configure automatically to the first available LPT.
• Install  DOS driver supplied together with the card if necessary.
• Connect your printer to the new port (LPT2) and the communication box to LPT1.
• Run my software as follows:

C:\BOX>Print /d:lpt2    # it will redirect printing to LPT2 .

Create  in box.ini a command string  as follows

LAPTOP=YES

it tell the program that the communication box is connected to LPT1.

How to run box scoring on notebook ?

With notebook you have almost same problem as with modern PCI motherboards - no room for LPT2 card!

There are two ways to work around.

You might simply buy  a printer with serial interface, for example EPSON 300  (about $130) and connect it through COM1 of your notebook and use an embedded  LPT for the communication unit.

Command sequence will be as follows:

C:\BOX>Print /d:Com1    # it will redirect printing to Com1 .You  probably  will have to configure Com1 to the proper speed etc.

Create  in box.ini a command string  as follows

LAPTOP=YES

it tell the program that the communication box is connected to LPT1.

Better solution

• Buy  PCMCIA  LPT card. 

  For the time being  I  know only one manufacturer - QUATECH (www.quatech.com), card name is SPP 100.

• Install it into PCMCIA (PC CARD) slot in your notebook.
• Set it to LPT 2.
• Install  dos driver supplied together with the card.
• Connect your printer to the new port (LPT2) and the communication box to LPT1!
• Run my software as follows:

C:\BOX>Print /d:lpt2    # it will redirect printing to LPT2 .

Create  in box.ini a command string  as follows

LAPTOP=YES

it tell the program that the communication box is connected to LPT1.

Spy camera is the most sophisticated part of the scoring system. It was invented in 1989 at Moscow World Champ at first. Since Sydney Olympic it became an essential part of the scoring system for each AIBA tournament
